He is confronted by the severed head of one Vizier as it passes along the Khalîj canal, held aloft on a spear. He discovers another on a platter in one of the Fatimid palaces. What is amazing is that Umara survives all these changes, even occasionally managing to shed a poetic tear for one of the recently departed Viziers.
