Samantha Smythe is time poor. With six demanding mouths to feed in her household she doesn't even have time for a bath and, in a desperate bid for some undemanding company, has started to talk to the flowers in the garden. What's more, her youngest son Jamie is not coping at all well with his new baby sister and has started shouting, swearing and wearing dresses .

Can all their problems be solved with some sea air at Beachcomber Bay? Samantha thinks so. It will be her summer of achieving something and initially it's all cream teas and rockpooling and chips on the beach. But things are never that simple and soon eldest son Edward is experimenting with Bacardi Breezers and girls who wear g-strings and too much eyeliner, middle son Bennie doesn't want to wear any clothes at all and why is Samantha's husband John never there when she needs him? It would seem that Samantha can't take her eye off the ball for one second, especially when the sweet old man that Jamie has made friends with really isn't all that he seems. Does Samantha have more to worry about than sand in the bed and yummy mummies on the beach or is it all just a storm in a teacup?
