African Music: New Challenges, New Vocations reveals an Africa that is rich in musical traditions and a home to new rhythms. It covers the sheer variety of African music, as well as its historical and geographical roots. The second part focuses on African music at the dawn of globalisation and the impact of the Internet on music in general. Lastly, a third part examines the main challenges for the future such as: developing the music industry and the performing arts; safeguarding the ancestral heritage; preventing piracy including illegal downloads from online services; and protecting the artists and their work.
